Manly gay men

“We think we perceive masculinity,” says production director Selin Davasse, “because a pale man is the norm, we don’t feel the necessitate to talk about it. So when we ask, ‘How would you explain masculinity?’, there are so many contradicting answers.”

Davasse and her co-director, Emre Busse, are looking for the answers in their new compact documentary Hyper Masculinity On The Dancefloor. These conversations suggested three clear but overlapping roles masculinity plays in sexual relationships with men. One team is drawn to masculine men because they feel protected. Another group says they enjoy feeling dominated by masculine energy. A third group reveals that connecting with masculine men validates their own masculinity and helps them sense more masculine.
