Meet Two-Time Project Runway Winner Dmitry Sholokhov
Dmitry Sholokhov lives to layout beautiful clothing. Growing up in Belarus, he competed in ballroom dancing and would design his control costumes. After moving to Brand-new York City at the age of 18, Dmitry enrolled and graduated from Parsons School of Design, earning his BFA in Fashion Design. The designer has made three appearances on Plan Runway, winning both Season 4 and Season 10 of Project Runway: All Stars. His sophisticated, architectural aesthetic impressed even the harshest critics. In talking about his designs, Heidi Klum said they were “wearable and polished,” while Nina Garcia called them “highly editorial.” Dmitry was also just named Designer of the Year by Metropolitan Fashion Awards.
We asked Sholokhov about his creative process, staying inspired, and what’s next.

I touch like inspiration changes all the time. What inspired me yesterday does not necessarily inspire me today. Today, I am inspired by what’s next.

Yes, you peruse correctly: there’s at least one heterosexual male Project Runway fan in America, and for the next few weeks I’ll be offering my thoughts on the Season 10 contestants and my (completely unqualified) perspective on the fashion coming down the runway.
I should mention I came to PR late — just after the season Christian Siriano won and (according to some fans, at least) the exhibition began its slide into self-parody, with “characters” outnumbering genuinely deserving contestants, accompanied by (to paraphrase Tim Gunn) an uptick in the kind of crack-induced judging that resulted in wins for Anya “One-Outfit” Ayoung-Chee and the crunchy-ugly threads of Gretchen Jones.
But I always enjoy existence TV about people who are actually good at something (besides, y’know, shopping and fighting), so let’s meet the new recruits, thank Mood, and acquire this runway started!
Christopher: At first, I thought he’d be this year’s resident snippy queen…right up ’til Gunnar Deatherage walked through the door, at which point Chris (and everyone else for that matter) instantly seemed far mo
Thanks for all your kind words about the various traumas I endured last week. I'm doing better. The operate thing will probably haunt me for a long age, but the actual event is over so at least I can nap at night. Treasure continues to be dead, but a reasonable facsimile is still available in the form of Jane Austen novels.
As for Project Runway, I tried to seal up my heart and launch separating myself from this season, but then this happened:
That would be a childhood photo of Dmitry, dressed up in what appears to be a drum major uniform with extra rickrack. As part of a question about personal and cultural heritage, the designers were surprised by visits from loved ones and shown photos from their past. Dmitry started crying when his friend Irina played him a video of his father in Belarus, offering words of encouragement. It was a heart-melting moment.
Look! He already has an affinity for blonde ladies!
(For the record I'm aware that Dmitry is probably queer. Not to create blanket judgments about opposite-sex friendships, but the presence of a lifelong, female best friend is a possibly an indicator. His depressed V-neck t-shirts are another. But who cares? He a
