Resident Evil Gets Its Second Gay Hero, Reveals Resistance Director

(Update) Turns out Tyrone is actually Resident Evil‘s third subtextually gay hero! Nadia from Resident Evil: Vendetta was confirmed as a queer woman in the film’s commentary. I hadn’t been aware because I uh, loath that film. Still pretty cool though!

Happy Pride Month, and a very friendly round of applause for Resident Evil: Resistance‘s game director, Al Yang today. As a way of celebrating Identity festival Month, Yang kicked off the evening with a twitter thread regarding his interest in including LGBTQ+ characters in the games he’s a part of, and in this case, specifically Resident Evil. While his latest title, Resident Evil: RE:Verse, has no story and sees classic characters used as class-based avatars, Resistance flourished thanks to the game’s charming and likable characters. From the delightfully dickish Daniel Fabron to the sneering punk attitude of January Van Sant, each and every one of them was lovable and quotable to the nth degree. One personality, however, turns out to have had an element kept from us this whole time; Tyrone Henry, a firefighter turned survival

Milla is more than a bad ass hottie.  She's definitely one of our allies, too. In a recent interview in The Advocate, Miss Jovovich opens up about her LGBT-ness.  Here are the questions she was asked by Brandon Voss.  For the full answers, head over to The Advocate.

The Advocate: Is this really the final Resident Evil movie, or is this a fake-out prefer Cher’s farewell tour?

Milla Jovovich: [Laughs] Sad to say, but for us, it’s ultimate. The story really comes full circle.

You’ve played apocalyptic protagonist Alice since the first Resident Evil film, in 2002. Has she get a part of you?

It’s no wonder the character resonated with queer audiences.

As with Alice, there’s an androgynous essence to many of your most remarkable roles, in films like The Fifth Element, The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, and Zoolander. What draws you to that androgyny?

I could always look like a boy very easily, which the fashion industry loved to play up, and there’s something incredibly magical about existence mysterious. I just did a photo shoot where I look like I could be Successful Blue’s brothe

Is Chris gay?

This topic has been debated to death, and there's always people who claim a ethics must be straight until stated otherwise by the creators (which is bull$hit), but the fact that Chris's sexuality comes up so often in fan discussions shows me that I'm not the only one who gets this impression from him.

Let's look at some of the hints:
1) He shows no interest at all in female characters. I don't care what people say about him and Jill, those two have never done anything onscreen that I haven't done with close friends without being in like with or sexually attracted to them.
2) His strongest feelings are directed towards male characters in the series. He's absolutely obsessed with Wesker, just like Wesker is obsessed with him, they both make quite ambiguous statements about each other every once in a while ("It seems like our fates are forever intertwined." - "Suck on this, Wesker!"), and I won't believe anyone who claims that Capcom didn't carry out that on purpose to fuel some of their fans' yaoi fantasies. Then there's Piers, Chris's only male partner and the only one he's eve
