Maybe it's because I flove Kevin Bacon. Maybe it's because I did the show twice -- once in sixth grade, then again my senior year of high academy. Maybe it's because I just really dig the music.

The fact is, the prospect of a Footlooseremake had me excited. Zac Efron, who I esteem and respect as a talented singer and charismatic thespian (those who declare differently: quit hating on the trendy kids -- it's sad), was cast as Ren, and surely if anyone could take the reigns from Mr. Bacon, it was Troy Bolton. Kenny Ortega, who co-choreographed my second favorite movie-musical Xanadu, would be directing and choreographing. And it was to be a musical, which meant we would actually get the film version of the stage exhibit, notable for making Ren's mom and the Reverend's wife into actual characters.

Then Zefron dropped out. And then it was announced that the songs would all be unique, so this would not be a stage-to-screen adaptation. And I got sad.

I hadn't heard anything about it for a while, so I looked it up today. And realized that I really need to pay attention to all movie news. I had no idea the role of Ren was recast in May. Nor did I know that the role of Ariel, the love interest

Bad News Bears (2005)

July 22, 2005

I have a confession to make: I don’t believe I’ve ever seen the imaginative BAD NEWS BEARS movies in full. Parts, maybe. I understand people love the first one. I don’t remember it. So this review comes from the rare perspective of a person who saw Richard Linklater’s remake in theaters and is returning to it after 20 years of still not seeing the original to find out why nobody seemed to think this stacked up to it. Ignorance is bliss!

For me the main movie to compare it to is BAD SANTA, which came from the same screenwriters, Glenn Ficarra & John Requa (CATS & DOGS). Obviously it’s not as good, but it’s the second best movie at presenting Billy Bob Thornton as an alcoholic asshole in a way that is somehow really entertaining and ultimately sweet in a way that doesn’t seem too phony because the guy is still an asshole, he just made a small gesture that shows he’s trying. This is a PG-13 family-friendly-ish sports production, so the change is a little bigger than just wanting to give a stuffed elephant to a child after getting shot by the police, but it still maintains hi

Netflix’s Point Blank Remake Casts Marcia Homosexual Harden

Fifty Shades of Grey actress Marcia Gay Harden has joined the cast of Point Blank, Netflix's remake of the 2010 French film of the equal name. Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo headline the crime drama from director Joe Lynch (Wrong Shift 2) and journalist Adam G. Simon (Man Down).

The imaginative Point Blank starred Gilles Lellouche and Roschdy Zem in the story of a male nurse who saves the life of a thief, only to have the thief's henchmen kidnap his wife in command to force him to let their boss go. The remake stars Mackie as an emergency room nurse and Grillo as a murder suspect who form an unlikely pair as they go up against gangsters and cops while trying to save Mackie's abducted wife and unborn child. The movie is co-produced by Grillo and Joe Carnahan, who previously worked together on The Grey, Wheelmen and Pride and Glory.

Variety now reports that Grillo and Mackie will be linked in Point Blank by Oscar-winner Marcia Gay Harden. No details are yet available about Harden's character. In addition, Variety reports that Teyonah Par
