Gay hockey

If you ask anyone that grew up in hockey, they’ll be able to inform you the reason that first brought them to the sport. For some, it might possess been a family tradition; others may have had a favourite player. For me, it was when I realized hockey was my ticket to construct friends.
When I was younger, I was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Growing up, that meant I was the outcast, the kid with no social skills and an obsession with the weather channel.
To help me, my parents enrolled me in social technique classes. What those classes taught was the importance of common interests with other people. So, I created a plan: almost every guy I knew that was my age loved hockey, so if that became our usual interest, maybe they would be my friend.
I put the schedule into action at school one Monday morning, when I was about ten. I walked into class, steeled up my nerves and walked over to another boy. He turned to me—uneasy and unsure of what I might do—but I just said:

2025-2026 League Deposit Open
Deposits for the 2025-2026 season are open!
The deposit secures your spot in the league for the upcoming season. The full cost of the season will be $375 ($100 deposit, remaining $275 due before you set foot on the ice). The cost of ice is going up (as it always does), but the planned expansion to DeForest this season is actually keeping the price down.
As always: cost should not be a barrier to playing hockey with us! If it is, reach out – we have a financial aid program to help make the value of playing hockey easier. If you want to play with us but need some occasion to figure out the finances, that’s fine! Let us recognize and we’ll hold your detect in the league.
(the PayPal interface is new, and there are still a few kinks to work out with it, so don’t worry if there’s a delay in seeing the “you’ve secured your spot in the league!” message on your profile)

Welcome to
Amsterdam’s first and only queer women’s field hockey team.
We are the BABYGAYS, Amsterdam’s queer women’s field hockey team. We coach every week, play matches and tournaments and socialize with friends.
Our aim is to provide an inclusive and safe environment for queer and gender non-conforming women, as well as non-binary people, to participate their favourite sport.
Our story
Founded in 2012, the BABYGAYS began as a community of hockey-loving queer friends that has grown into an established well-loved, inclusive and sports-focused community. Hockey sits at the epicenter of this community with weekly trainings at AMVJ hockey club that are open to everyone. We end our year with the annual EuroGames tournament, Europe’s largest queer multi-sport event. We’ve won several medals here, and can’t wait to go for more at this year’s tournament in Vienna!
The BABYGAYS is a part of PinkHockey, the organization for queer field hockey across the world.
