But some homosexual couples say they dread that after it overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, unraveling half a century of legal precedent, the Supreme Court will rescind their right to marry next.
Those concerns were stoked in 2020 when Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito issued blistering rebukes of Obergefell and signaled that they would be open to reversing it. Thomas again expressed an interest in overturning Obergefell in his concurring opinion in the ruling to overturn Roe.
Mary Bonauto, who argued on behalf of same-sex couples in Obergefell and now serves as the civil rights project director at GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders, or GLAD, dismissed the idea that the homosexual marriage ruling will be overturned.
“I understand that there are things about these times that introduce a lot of uncertainty in people’s lives. I grasp that,” she added. “But right now, and certainly for the foreseeable future, marriage equality is not one of the things that would change.”

John Sullivan, vice chair and treasurer of the Tennessee Log Cabin Republicans and his husband Dan Medora, got married at Mar-a-Lago on February 23, according to an Instagram post from the organization, which is comprised of and advocates for Queer Republicans.
"An amazing period was had by all @john__sullivan__ & @dmedo's unforgettable wedding at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, FL. A celebration of love and design that will be cherished forever. Thanks for the incredible weekend, fellas!" the Log Cabins Republicans of Tennessee wrote in the post.
Sullivan told Newsweek in a statement Friday the wedding was at "one of the most stunning locations in the world. He applauded the Mar-a-Lago team as being "inclusive since day 1" and having a "fantastic time."
"It was a privilege and honor to host our guests there. It was absolutely perfect, magical and beyond our dreams. Our guests and we will cherish this very extraordinary time shared together," he said.

“It’s not just about gays and lesbians. It’s about the communities that care about equality,” Moran said. “And, again, suburban women, youth voters — these are core constituencies of the 2024 election cycle. We don’t just have to pander and run to gays.”
Still, Moran and other event organizers said they think Trump could secure up to 50% of gay voters in the upcoming election, without providing figures explaining their reasoning. Millions of American adults determine as lesbian or gay, according to Gallup.
In a Human Rights Campaign poll conducted in August, 74% of LGBTQ voters say they plan to or are leaning toward voting for Vice President Kamala Harris, 7.5% for Trump and the remainder for third party write-ins.
Brandon Wolf, a spokesperson for the advocacy group, which has endorsed and is fundraising for Harris, denounced the Trump UNITY events and accused the former president of leading “the most anti-LGBTQ+ administration in history.”

A homosexual wedding between two men — one of whom is a senior official with a national pro-LGBT conservative group — was held this weekend at the resort that is also the residence of former President Donald Trump.
The Feb. 23 ceremony held at Mar-a-Lago for John Sullivan, vice chair and treasurer for the Tennessee Log Cabin Republicans, and his partner, Dan Medora, sparked some backlash online against Trump after the Republican organization shared images from the event.
The group wrote in a Feb. 25 post on Facebook: “An amazing time was had by all at John Sullivan and Dan Medora’s unforgettable wedding at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, FL. A celebration of love and style that will be adored forever. Thanks for the marvelous weekend, fellas!”
