Gay with straight man

Why do some straight men have sex with other men?

According to nationally-representative surveys in the United States, hundreds of thousands of straight-identified men have had sex with other men.

In the new book Still Straight: Sexual Flexibility among White Men in Rural America released today, UBC sociologist Dr. Tony Silva argues that these men – many of whom enjoy hunting, fishing and shooting guns – are not closeted, bisexual or just experimenting.

After interviewing 60 of these men over three years, Dr. Silva found that they adore a range of relationships with other men, from hookups to sexual friendships to secretive loving partnerships, all while strongly detecting with straight culture.

We spoke with Dr. Silva about his book.

Why do straight-identified men have sex with other men?

The majority of the men I interviewed reported that they are primarily attracted to women, not men. Most of these men are also married to women and prefer to have sex with women. They explained that although they loved their wives, their marital sex lives were not as active as they wanted. Sex with men allowed them to own more sex. They don’t consider sex with men cheating and s

Contrary to local folklore, I harbor no homosexual desires. However, almost all of my male friends (and about half of my male relatives) are queer . Due to the fact that I'm, shall we state, definitely into my feminine side, some gay men simply assume that I, too, am a member of their royal family; others, who have a keen sense of gaydar, know immediately that I'm pathetically straight.

Subscribing to the belief that the only difference between a straight male and a same-sex attracted guy is a six-pack of beer, the gay men who think I'm "a member" possess come to receive what some consult to as my "illusion of strong heterosexual desires." At least, they stopped making passes. It must be tough on 'em. I'm so damn devilishly handsome.

I attribute my sexual ambiguity to the fact that no male role models existed when I was a child. Raised in an exclusively female household, I grew up terrified of men. Now, I'm afraid of women, but I digress. And yes, I'm in therapy. Permanently.

During my preschool years, Mom, who had wanted a young woman she planned to name Stevie Sue, thought I looked cute in lipstick and Grandma loved painting my nails bright red. Disregard G.I. Joe, I was too occupied stumbling around in high heels

Gay men or linear men – Is there a difference?

Growing up as a young man in today’s age, one very quickly learns about the supposed great divider of men.

As a vertical man, you rapidly learn that any form of sweetness, tenderness, delicateness, statement of beauty or care is labelled as ‘gay’, and that label is one that you never want connected with your label. As gay men, we quickly absorb that by innateness of being homosexual, everything that we are is something that society doesn't want, so we either learn to embrace our sexuality and bear the consequences, or we deny it.

Both types of men however, gay or linear, equally resort to an array of behaviours to escape feeling this, attempting to either ‘man up’, ‘toughen up’ or adopt some other form of facade that allows them to either ‘fit in’ or ‘fight against’ what society accepts. But what if this so called amazing divider of men is in reality an illusion? What if both men, gay or linear, have more in common than what we would enjoy to believe?

When a man truly lets you in and simply is himself, when he drops all the protection he carries, all the ideals, the beliefs and the many lifestyle choices he has made to identify an

Originally treated as a subversion of the standard gay stereotypes, the Linear Gay is a homosexual male or female character who has no camp mannerisms, Butch Woman loving woman tendencies, or obviously "gay" affectations.

In the earliest cases, Vertical Gays were mostly there for farcical reasons: perhaps as a misunderstanding in which a vertical character ends up unwittingly inviting himself out on a "date" with a 'stealthy' gay dude, or in which a homophobic character espouses his views to a stranger, only to uncover out that the person he's talking to is gay. Currently, the Strai
