When I was in my 20s and through most of my 30s, I was very adverse to labels like being reflection of as Hispanic even though my surname makes that clear as does the color of my skin.

And to be called gay? Forget it! I was simply a ‘private person.’

I was filled with shame about who I was as far as the homosexual part and as far as the Hispanic part, I think I felt it might limit me.

Well, whatever my issues were then they certainly are not my issues now. Call me gay, call me Hispanic. Label me. Big deal.

Because it seems to me that whatever you put out there into the existence is who you are and anyone with half a brain will create their opinion of you from there.

I guess that’s why I’m cringing a bit at the interview Raven-Symoné gave to Oprah Winfrey even though I understand how someone so young would say these things.

Two of the biggest labels that hold gone with the former Disney teen queen: being a lesbian or bi-curious and being an African-American.

She does admit that

Raven-Symone Said She Turned Down Alter Of Her Character From Linear To Gay

Actress and That’s So Raven star Raven-Symoné said she told Disney she wanted her nature on the spin-off Raven’s Home to remain straight.

Speaking to the “Pride” podcast, Symone said that Disney offered to make the spin-off character a lesbian to accommodate Raven-Symone, who is homosexual in real life.

“There was a conversation before the series started, and I was asked the question, ‘Would you like Raven Baxter to be a lesbian?’ And I said, no. I said no,” Symoné said.

Symone said she is proud to be gay, but “The reason I said no wasn’t because I wasn’t proud of who I was, or I didn’t wish to represent the LGBTQ+ collective in any way,” Symoné said.. “It was because Raven Baxter is Raven Baxter is Raven Baxter. And Raven Baxter is a character that I was proud to play, even if she is straight, cisgender — I don’t mind — enable her have her moment.”

Symoné added that adding a new subplot might be a problem in other acting jobs. “If you ever see me in anoth

Raven-Symoné said that she told Disney producers that she didn't want her character to reach out as queer in the "That's So Raven" reboot, "Raven's Home."

In 2017, Raven-Symoné and Anneliese van der Pol reprised their roles as Raven Baxter and Chelsea Daniels in a fresh Disney Channel present. The spinoff, which premiered roughly 10 years after the first series ended, followed the foremost friends after they'd grown up and had their have children.

During a video interview for Them, published on YouTube last week, Raven-Symoné said that she didn't think it was a great enough reason for Raven to be gay in the reboot just because the actor had come out as gay.

"I think Disney wanted her to be queer in the beginning and I just didn't feel comfortable doing that," she said. "They were enjoy, 'Do you crave Raven to be gay?' I said, 'Why?' [and they said,] 'Because you are.' I said, 'Bad, bad reason. That's a awful reason.'"

Raven-Symoné continued: "No, Raven Baxter never exhibited any type of sexual self situation in the priors. I'

Raven-Symoné: Why I didn’t want my ‘Raven’s Home’ character to be gay

Raven-Symoné wasn’t too keen on producers at the Disney Channel suggesting that her character on “Raven’s Home” be part of the LGBTQ community.

The former minor star, 36 — who identifies as nonbinary and married Miranda Maday in 2020 — has starred in the “That’s So Raven” spinoff since 2017.

Raven-Symoné was interviewed by Them earlier this month when she admitted that she wanted to keep her real persona separate from her Raven Baxter one.

“I think Disney wanted her to be queer in the beginning, and I just didn’t feel relaxed doing that,” she noted.

“They were like, ‘Do you want Raven to be gay?’ I said, ‘Why?’ [And they said,] ‘Because you are.’ I said, ‘Bad, bad reason. That’s a bad reason,’ ” the “Princess Diaries 2” actress continued.

“No, Raven Baxter never exhibited any type of sexual persona situation in the priors,” she added. “I’m not being myself on this show; I’m being a character.”
