Ask Men's Sock Rules: Are They Right?

I'm generally very wary of fashion experts giving rules of fashion do's and don'ts. First of all, their are always exceptions to the rules. But it's also mostly a marketing strategy for the site or magazine employing them. "You wouldn't be able to dress yourself without us," they're saying. And they're disregarding any creativity or instinct involved with planning outfits. So you'd better purchase the products they recommend too; otherwise you'll just be creating one fashion faux-pas after another.

Still, some of their rules might be helpful. At least so you can know what rules you're breaking when you decide to get creative.

I decided to take a look at Seek Men's sock rules and see what I actually assent with. Their entire article is here.

When two men are negotiating a sexual encounter or even match to date, the phrase “What are you into?” will inevitably come from one or both.. Quite often in “Grindr” chat, this is shortened to be simply “into?” — just favor ships used cyphers (flags) to communicate, we gay men own our own way to express sexual preferences and proclivities. It’s called the Hanky Code.

Originating in the early 1970’s in either New York or San Francisco (let’s not even try to settle that debate), the hanky code is a system of signaling sexual preferences, fetishes, and roles by choosing to wear a specifically colored bandana on a particular side of the body. With just a glance at your rear end, (the bandana being tucked in your back pocket) anyone who is in-the-know will know what you’re “into!”

So how do you realize which color to wear, and where to wear it? The first critical variable is the side of the body on which you choose to wear your colors, because this signals your preferred role:

  • Left side of the body = Top/Dominant Role
  • Right side of the body = Bottom/Submissive Role

As a way to remember which is which, examine that we read left to right, so left comes first. Simila

The first rule of sock-puppetry. Remember who’s the sock puppet.

Dean Browning is the former Lehigh County (PA) Commissioner and an ardent Trumpian. He also uses Twitter. And in using Twitter, someone recently posted a response to his Twitter account that, skillfully, might seem a bit weird.

Wait. Dean Browning’s a shadowy gay guy? With that Twitter photo?

No. What Dean Browning’s been doing is using an alternate Twitter account, a “sock-puppet,” in Internet parlance. This sock-puppet, calling himself “Dan Purdy,” frequently “responds” back to Browning’s virulent tweets with virulent tweets of his own.

So what we contain here is someone pretending to be someone else, then using Twitter to be his have cheering section. Oh yeah, and “Dan Purdy’s” swipe at Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley was the soar on the turd pie.

Classless.

Trust me, as a blogger and as a person who’s very unseal about his animation on the Internet, I’ve dealt with sock puppets for years. Including a sock puppet from someone who I once thought was a friend.

About ten years ago, when I was blogging for the Times Un
