Just Sam’s Instagram account profile also reads “CHILD OF GOD FIRST,” followed by a rainbow emoji, the traditional symbol of the LGBTQ community.

You may remember the controversy over Adam Lambert, the runner-up on season eight: He didn’t confirm his sexuality until after the show was over.  The very first American Idol finalist to arrive out publicly was season one’s Jim Verraros but he, too, didn’t arrive out until after the show was over.  Since then, there have been a number of openly LGBTQ finalists, including drag queen Ada Vox.

This seemed prefer it would hold been such a big deal – and virtually doomed – only two years ago. The thought was that America would never vote en-mass for an openly male lover contestant on American Idol. Now Adam Lambert, an amazingly talented young singer who has been photographed kissing guys in public, is the odds-on favorite to take the crown in the finals next week.

Let me remind you that the now-openly gay Clay Aiken was not out when he competed during the second season if the show. And while it may come across like it, he actually was the runner-up behind Ruben Stoddard. I ponder no matter what happens, Adam is going to be a huge luminary – he already is! And once the show is over, I wish Adam will address freely about organism a gay guy. I think it will be inspirational to a lot of young gays out there and hopefully educational to their parents.

But to join the ranks of past winners Kelly Clarkson, David Cook and Carrie Underwood as breakout stars. He will have to contain off the
